In 2003 Pearson Matthews funded a project to look at four health states: STDs, Alzheimer´s, long-term monitoring and allergies. Looking at these diseases through the eyes of sufferers allowed us to consider what technology may be able to do for them by the year 2015. We were surprised to discover that all four ideas highlighted commercial opportunities that could be effective now, not in 15 years´ time.

These ideas were presented by Pearson Matthews to Parliament and two years later Boots won a bid to deliver over-the-counter STD testing, exactly as suggested. This has proved a valuable way to show the effectiveness of innovation.

This method of forward thinking should also unearth opportunities relevant to today.
